Weekend Adventures!

On Friday, February 22nd, I headed to Sam's house for an exciting adventure. He told me that we were going to go skiing. We piled into the car to ride to Ski Sawmill. Sam wanted me to have some fun, so he fixed up a cinch sack for me to ride on his back. It was nice and toasty. I was a little nervous, but Sam knew what he was doing. We held on to the T bar to move up to the top of the slope. Wheeeee! Down we flew! What fun! After a few times skiing down the hill, we needed to warm up. Into the lodge we went for some hot chocolate.
Wheee!!!

Yummy hot chocolate

When we woke up Saturday morning it was time for OM. Sam said I would have fun. OM is a creative activity. It's a contest and we needed to work on our skit. While I was there, I found a tree to hang in. It reminded me of home.

Hangin' around

That afternoon, we went to a bowling alley. That bowling ball sure was heavy. I could barely lift it, so I just watched Sam and his family bowl the afternoon away.

This is too heavy for me!
On Saturday, we went to Bounce Fun Plex. It was cool! It's a big building with trampolines all over the inside. I had fun watching all of the people jump up and down.

Bounce Fun Plex
I have to say, at first I was a bit afraid of Sam's cat, but by the end of the weekend we were great friends. What an action-packed weekend. Thanks, Sam.

Next visit...

On Thursday night, I went to Kelsey's grandparents' house. When we arrived, we ate some candy. I ended up in the candy dish....those caramels were sooooo tasty! After that, we took a walk which was a bit bitter for this tropical animal. For dinner we ate homemade pizza with pepperoni and meatballs. It was y-u-m-m-y!!! Then we watched American Idol and Kelsey's favorite singer was voted off the show. Kelsey was upset, so I felt really badly for her. After that, we read a book until we both fell asleep. What a fun visit I had.

Tour of Linntown

At the end of the day, a few students took me for a tour around Linntown. It was a bit confusing, but I am sure I will know my way around very shortly.

First stop to meet the principal. Hope she's as nice as our Head Teacher!

Linntown Office

Mrs. Hummel's students thought I might like to "hang around" the Library for a bit.

Nothing like a good book
It's Random Act of Kindness month. This banner is just outside of the Library. When students perform a RAK, a heart is placed on it with their name and what they have done.

Next, they took me to see a rather large iPod made by some fourth grade students. I couldn't understand why I couldn't get the Apps to work, until I realized it wasn't real.

Rather large iPod

Wouldn't this make a great hideout? It's where the children store their instruments.

This cubby looks just my size

Now this is exciting...there seems to be a place where I can go shopping! Oh wait...I need to earn  Thrifty Threads. I will have to figure out what to do to get them.

Thrifty Threads
Look at this cool stuff...

Looking forward to visiting another house tonight.

Pinchy

My First Visit...

Eating Samoas an after-school snack
Went to her room and read a book
In her church ready to go to Mustard Seeds, and Sunday school
The very first thing we did was eat a snack of candy and cookies. I have never even heard of Girl-Scout cookies but I like them almost better then bananas. We then read a book called The Swiss Family Robinson. The oldest child in the book even had a spider monkey, and he saved the boy from a wild dog! We then went to Abby's church. It was so big, and her teacher even offered me a cupcake! I had to go to her house because she didn't want me to get hurt. That was a wonderful visit but I'm sure all of C-51's kids' houses will be just as nice!

Pinchy Has Arrived!

Yippee! I have arrived in America!!! I am safe and sound...well despite being a bit hungry and jet lagged. Mrs. Hummel's kids were very excited to meet me. I could hear her telling them about me going through Customs, the difference between an address in the UK and the USA, when all I wanted was for her to open up my traveling bag. The class liked my traveling bag...and my tie. As you can see from the photo, the children in this class do not wear uniforms. That might take a little getting used to.

Pinchy has arrived!

I wonder who will take me home tonight...hope they aren't expecting for me to be able to stay awake too late...think I will take a nap while they are in Music class...zzzzz.

Introducing...The Patriot!

Yesterday we were introduced to "The Patriot" which is Abby's creation for a local restaurant, Taste of Philly located in nearby Selinsgrove. The Patriot is made of roast beef, topped with melted mozzarella, bleu cheese, provolone, and American cheese, hot peppers, and hot sauce. Abby selected the ingredients to represent the patriots who fight or fought for our country. She used the colors of our flag...red, white, and blue. For those of us who aren't fond of hot and spicy foods, Mrs. Hummel ordered turkey and Italian hoagies. Many of us liked "The Patriot", but weren't fond of the bleu cheese, so we scraped some of it off.

Yummy!

Mmmm...

I like the turkey better.

"The Patriot" with the hot peppers!

Aughh...the meat is falling out!
We are still awaiting Pinchy's arrival. We hoped he would be here to try the hoagies because we're thinking he will be awfully hungry from his long journey.

When I arrive in the UK, you will be able to follow my adventures on Class 8's blog:
 Mrs. Down's Year 4/5 Class

Be sure to check on me often, but don't forget to read about Pinchy's adventures here in the USA!

While we await the arrival of Pinchy, we thought you might like to have a look around Linntown. Before Mrs. Hummel packed me up, I went for a tour with some of her students. They took some wonderful photos of me...I am so photogenic. Ready to explore?

Just inside the doors...

Welcome to Linntown Intermediate. We are just inside the doors where the students enter the building.

Next stop...the Linntown office to sign in. Had to have my picture taken with some of Mrs. Hummel's students, and of course their principal, Ms. Reber.

Our school office
First stop...

Linntown's Library
On to the Computer Lab...

We are an Apple school
Across the hall is the Art room.

Lots of supplies in this room!
Hope you can keep up...I am off to the gym!

Not sure if I can make that basket...

Over to the music room...

Hope Mr. Walz doesn't mind!

Speaking of music...better check to see if I have a trumpet lesson.

What time is my lesson?

What's that...there's Thrifty Threads today...yippee!!

Wonder what I will find in here?

Back the hallway I go...need to see the students in C51.

Our class

Hope you enjoyed the tour!
Check out my traveling bag! Bucknell University is such a part of our community, so Mrs. Hummel thought Mrs. Down's class might like it. Lewisburg is also known for its special street lights. Mrs. Hummel found a pewter version for Class 8.

New digs for about 6 days
Mrs. Hummel packed me rather carefully with the instructions not to breathe any fire while I am on my journey. I wonder it Pinchy and I will pass each other in the air? Can't wait to meet the children in Class 8.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Pinchy. On Monday, school was cancelled due to icy and snowy conditions. When we got back on Tuesday, we needed to finish up our Science investigation with rubber band energy. That was fun! After lunch a letter arrived announcing the acceptance of Abby's hoagie, "The Patriot", for the Taste of Philly's menu for a limited time. Her persuasive letter really did the trick. Now that's really exciting!

Averaging our trial differences!
